Abstract
This research identifies the concept, characteristics and classification of illustrated album, as a part of early years literature and its historical contextualisation. It will also deepen on its benefits as a communicative and educational tool for art education, analysing quantitative and qualitative data about gender representation on national illustrated album editorials. It highlights the mediator’s importance on selection and recommendation; and it presses for a quality production which breaks gender stereotypes. As an example, it analyses Pink Monster album’s visual narrative, a non-sexist inclusive album which demands an active reader.
