Mass literature as a cultural artefact in the post-feminist era
Abstract
This article analyses the vision of women in highly successful novels on the national and international scene in recent years. Taking the analytical method of the Circuit of Culture (Paul du Gay et al., 1997), we explore the different agents of the publishing process, as well as the literary tendencies with more success at the present time; of which we will focus on the model of feminine identity that is shown by the protagonists of books like Millennium (Stieg Larsson), Fifty shades of Gray (E. L. James) or Twilight (Stephenie Meyer). Our main objective is to review the main alternatives that are being provided in this regard. The results show certain advances, especially in fantasy novels. However, heroin creation continues to be dependent on romantic love.
