Abstract

We present an Italian-Spanish comparative study on the so-called evaluative suffixed verbs (ESVs), such as canticchiare and canturrear. Starting from the data provided by two synchronic corpora, we will conduct a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the detected forms. First, we will determine which are the most frequent ESVs in the two languages. Secondly, possible phenomena of variation along the diaphasic, diamesic, and diatopic axes, as well as the actional-semantic characteristics of the 25 most recurring ESVs will be analysed.
