Abstract

This paper seeks to evaluate how Catullus and, to a minor extent, Propertius influenced a major poet in 20th century Spain, Jaime Gil de Biedma (Barcelona, 1929-1990). One of his chief poems, «Pandémica y celeste», is analysed here, as are some biographical points that can explain his view of these roman poets.
