Las formas de perfecto de indicativo en –iit en la versificación latina: ¿una cuestión métrica o una cuestión morfológica?

Abstract

Even though the final –i of the perfect indicative in –iit is supposed to be short in classical Latin, classical versification has an amount of examples with a long final syllable, which are of a certain extent in Ovid. some authorities consider it as a lengthening of the short final syllable, some, as an archaic survival. However it is possible that spoken language vacillated between one perfect in –iit and another in –iīt, due to the influence of contracted forms in –īt. Why this involves, above all, perfects of eo and its compounds is another question we are reviewing in this article.
