Rosa Rosae, by Víctor Botas: a sui generis historical novel
Abstract
This article studies the multilevel codification of Victor Botas' novel Rosa rosae (1992, 2015), a fiction that recovers Latin antiquity without being properly a historical novel, according to the traditional definition of the genre. The three keys that run through the story are analysed: the autobiographical, the literary and the political. Its study reveals, however, that this codification does not establish a fixed system of correspondences like that of the roman à clef.
