Ernout–Meilletiana
Abstract
The Dictionnaire étymologique de la langue latine. Histoire des mots by Alfred Ernout and Antoine Meillet is still an essential reference work within the lexicography of the Latin language. However, the new theoretical oulines postulated within the framework of modern Linguistics and the significant progress in our knowledge of certain aspects of the Latin language, or of the languages that were in contact with Latin, now permit us to answer questions that were raised in the work of the French linguists and in some cases review some of their proposals.
