"De las crónicas o tienpos" by Eusebius-Jerome-Prosper-Madrigal: critical edition of an inedit addition in translation
Abstract
This work focuses on the translation by Alfonso Fernández de Madrigal, El Tostado, of De las crónicas o tienpos by Eusebius-Jerome, making known a previously unadvertised addition, which was introduced at the end of the work. After analyzing Madrigal’s own prologue and the translation of the one saint Jerome placed before his latin version of the text, where he recognizes his intervention in Eusebius’ text, there is a comparison between El Tostado’s theoretical approach to the translation and the actual practice of it, where, without acknowledgment, he added some elements at the end of the latin original by Eusebius-Jerome from a text of Prosper. After analyzing this final addition, the authors edit the text with notes.
