The Latin of the "Epistulae Wisigothicae"
Abstract
The Epistulae Wisigothicae are a collection of eighteen letters written between the last quarter of vith Century and the early years of viith. Its authors are both ecclesiastical (a monk, a bishop and a third ecclesiastical author unknown), and civil (king Sisebut, count Bulgar and Byzantine patrician Cesareo). His Latin is a very difficult and has not been subject to any case study. This article examines the main characteristics of the language of these letters, grouped into four main sections: ortography and phonetics, morphology, syntax and semantics.Downloads
