Claude Lefort on Merleau-Ponty: Perception and Politics
Abstract
This article proposes an interpretation of Claude Lefort's reading of Merleau-Ponty's work, focusing on his understanding of the author's displacements both in his studies on perception and in his political writings. It explores, first, Lefort’s reflection on the passage from the phenomenology of perception to the outline of a new ontology in Merleau-Ponty's philosophical itinerary, and then examines his critical reading of the variation of the author's position with respect to Marxism. Finally, it investigates how Lefort understands the connection between both trajectories, seeking to clarify the meaning of philosophical interrogation in his interpretation of these displacements.
