Concept, method and system in "Différence et répétition" by Gilles Deleuze
Abstract
This article proposes an explanation and interpretation of both content and framework in Différence et répétition (1968) by Gilles Deleuze. This work explains a system of contemporary philosophy which aims at defining the conditions of actual experience. The system is made up of several parts: criticism of content and form in the philosophical concept; philosophical methods; transcendental aesthesiology; dialectic of Ideas; aesthetics of intensities. This interpretation shows the path and function of the sufficient reason in several findings: the method as a means of philosophical determination, differential affectivity, non-categorical notions, the function of ontological imperatives, the triple figure of determination, individuating determination, the opening to intensive quantities ethics. Understanding Deleuze’s work in this way makes his philosophy involve in ontological, ethical, aesthetic concerns within traditional philosophy. Besides, it can be useful in order to make sense of his later work.
