Art as a space of meeting: rhizomatic influences between childhood and artists in residence at the school

Abstract

If we understand art as a meeting space, the Espacio C project invites young artists to take up residence in schools in Barcelona (Spain), with the main goal of creating synergies between art and education. The school gives a space to create an artistic workshop shared by the artist and the children of the school. The studio becomes a shared space, where learning appears by contamination, between the adult world and childhood. This research shows some of the influences that artists provoke in children; as well as the changes in the creative processes of the artists, generated by their contact with the processes of childhood. The research has been built from an Arts Based Research perspective, with the intention of revealing improvement strategies in artistic education. The visual narrative Cables and Rizomas, built through the dialogue between own photographs and paintings by Juan Uslé (Santander, 1954), is part of the investigation. This Photo Essay offers the reader in a rhizomatic system of shared relationships and learning. As an artist / teacher / researcher I propose, rather than obtaining objective data about an educational topic, to participate in the creation of knowledge in relation to the educational world, inviting the reader to question their own questions and position themselves with it.
