Analyzing the Cultural Podcasts in RNE’s Production Structure
Abstract
The main objective of this article is to analyse how a public journalistic company focused on the production of audio content, such as Radio Nacional de España, takes advantage of the narrative possibilities of podcasts, focusing on the specific case of those specialised in the cultural environment. The sample includes eight podcasts and a total of 730 episodes, which are analysed through a combination of a quantitative analysis that takes into account seven variables (name, theme, URL, distribution platforms, creation, periodicity and range of duration) and a qualitative study based on a content analysis that considers four priority aspects (human resources, journalistic genres, audio resources and content structure). As more relevant results, a great diversity is found in the facets of news treatment, narrative rhythm, use of journalistic genres and range of duration and it is concluded that RNE is making a remarkable effort to promote this technology.
