Abstract

This study analyses, from the point of view of its denomination, datation, economic value, functions and other aspects, the commisions and benefits received by Velazquez during the three stages he spent in Madrid. We have corrected several errors and have tried to give a due sens to the intervention of this painter in the courtisan environment.
