Santiago Morán Cisneros: iconographic aspects and new contributions
Abstract
This paper deals with the professional career of Santiago Morán Cisneros, also called Santiago Morán el Mozo. He was a painter, drawer and appraiser of collections and artistic pieces, active in Madrid during the second third of the 17th century. On the basis of the scarce known production of this artist, we propose a review of the iconographic sources he must have used to compose his drawings and paintings. We also update his catalogue with the addition of a new localised work, signed by the artist himself. In addition, the respective illustrations and texts that were used by the painter in the cycle of paintings made for the convent of Rivas del Jarama between 1656 and 1658.
