Women with intellectual disabilities and employment discrimination
Abstract
This work proposes an approach to the employment related situation of women with disabilities, focusing on the group of women with intellectual disabilities, marked with added labels and intersectorial determinations.
Multiple sources of information are exploited, including open interviews with qualified informants, like managers of organizations involved in disability or direct care technicians.
In spite of the recognition of progress during last decades, among the conclusions we highlight the limits and brakes for the effectiveness of the proclaimed rights: overdetermination of the economic policy over social policies, dissonances between legislation contents and its practical implementation, limits of coordination and possibilities of intervention through plans and programs of action, deficiencies in procedures for orientation and access to employment -training and professional fields-, maintenance of the weight of stereotypes in the lack of opportunities, need to incorporate a gender perspective.
