Germany's image in Spain (1860-1920). The results of a hemerographic analysis
Abstract
Analysis of periodical sources is presented as an essential tool for research on Hispano-German cultural relations, particularly if we are seeking to get an in-depth view of issues related to image, cultural reception or cultural transfer between Hispanic and German language speaking countries. German cultural reception in Spain during the period between 1860 and 1920 has been dealt with thoroughly in numerous studies on the topic of “Krausoinstitucionalismo”. However, there are very few studies focused on image-building or social issues. During this paper I shall show, with the help of press images, the growing interest from 1860, fascination around 1911 and finally, outright rejection in 1914 shown by the Spanish people towards the German nation.Downloads
