Media representations of climate as an anti-heroe in stories from two newspapers

Keywords: mass media studies, media representations, cognitive mediation, stories, desert

Abstract

Media stories offer representations that can be analyzed to identify the way in which cognitive mediation is carried out. In a desert city, the representation of climate offered by the media would seek to mediate between the extreme conditions and the need for human beings to adjust to them.

The analysis of the roles played by the characters in socio-environmental notes published for two years by two Mexican newspapers, showed how desert climate is presented as anti-hero or an assistant to the latter, which endangers the health and physical integrity of humans and pets, or as a controller that hinders the daily activities of humans
