The question of miracles in Leibnizian thought, between absolute determinism and theological voluntarism

Keywords: Leibniz, miracles, absolute determinism, theological voluntarism

Abstract

In the present text it is intended, on the one hand, to put Leibniz's thinking in relation to those positions that he tried to reconcile from an overcoming perspective, that is, absolute determinism and theological voluntarism, -which will serve to expose his own system of modal notions in a clear and concise way- and, on the other hand, to attend to the difficulties involved in trying to maintain a traditional standpoint in theology from a rationalist position; some of which, we consider, can be illustrated from a new perspective by attending to the Leibnizian defence of miracles.
