Abstract

Contemporary feminism is founded on Beauvoir, just like modern democracy is founded on Rousseau. The existentialist conception of the human being as free being and a maker of sense is the proper frame for a theory of women´s emancipation. Basic concepts of Beauvoir´s existentialism serve as productive tools for explaining women´s oppression and the paths for their liberation.
