In defense of female talent within the music industry: building alternatives against gender inequality in the musical sector
Abstract
Introduction. Nowadays, professional women do not receive the same support as their male counterparts in the music industry, even though they can prove the same level of professionalism and experience in that sector. Objectives. This paper aims to give visibility to the feminist movement within the music sector, which is advancing steadily thanks to the commitment of associations and platforms, which work for a common goal: to focus on the incomprehensible gender inequality that women suffer on a daily basis and empower them in their fight against these unfair dissidences in pursuit of the end of all gender gaps. Methodology and conclusions. The time has come to condemn those mind-sets that advocate silencing women’s voices and building synergies to end the lack of parity, the pay gap, unequal opportunities, glass ceilings and sticky floors in the music business.
