The contemporary men´s magazines in Spain. from Hombres Dunia to Hombres de Vanguardia. A proposal of periodization
Abstract
Our research tries to make a historical journey through the multitude of headers aimed at the male audience that have been appearing and disappearing, with more or less success, in contemporary Spain. A journey that will deal with the magazines destined for men and the different models of masculinity proposed in each stage. This journalistic analysis has identified five fundamental periods that mark the history of this type of publication. Thus, our proposal will go from the shy beginnings of the mid-80s, passing through the eroticization of the headlines, the liberalization for LGTBI+ content, the metrosexualization of these publications and, finally, the phagocytization of the male press by general information newspapers.
