Javier Fernández del Moral’s Main Contributions to Communication Studies (1980- 2020). A Study of his Academic Production Among 40 years

Abstract

This article rescues Professor Javier Fernández del Moral’s academic production from academic and national databases. It covers his teaching and research activity between 1980 and 2020. This research tries to classify his works, put it in value and show the validity of his legacy to new generations of researchers in the fields of Mass Media and Communication Studies. The methodology applies quantitative and qualitative methods based on bibliographic and scientometric analysis. This paper concludes that there is a proportionate balance between books, book chapters and academic articles among the time. Fernández del Moral’s work can be classified into two main fields, which are the Specialized Journalism and Applied Communication. Finally, this paper underlines his influence and deep heritage in the rest of the academic community. He has been responsible for the creation of an epistemological and theoretical frame for Specialized Journalism as a university course, with extensions in universities all around Spain and Latin America.
