From memory to postmemory of the Spanish Civil War through the photobook: The generation of collective memory
Abstract
This paper proposes an analysis of the photobooks published from 2019 onwards on the Spanish Civil War as a form of postmemory. That year El laberinto mágico by Julián Barón, Flowers for Franco by Toni Amengual, War Edition by Roberto Aguirrezabala, and Cristos y anticristos by Javier Viver are published and the following year, in 2020, also El paseo by David García and Hombrecino by Susana Cabañero. These photobooks inaugurate a specifically photographic form of postmemory, in terms of generation, context, discourse and publication. I believe that these creators can add a fourth generation to the three photographic generations described by Antonio Ansón, which I have called the generation of collective memory.
