The Power Vacuum in the Middle East. Analysis of the Kurdish Case
Abstract
The “power vacuum” is a dangerous condition that alters the status quo and is the product of a State's lack of governance, its inability to generate effective social cohesion and the delegitimization of its institutions. This article will analyse how some Kurdish communities in Iraq, Iran, Syria and Turkey, the countries where their population and ancestral territory are mainly concentrated, have become gemismatic forces with the ability to create and fill power gaps and the dynamics with which the affected countries have to deal in the process of filling in the power vacuum left by the Islamic State.
