“Image-of-sound” concept in acousmatic music according to François Bayle composer
Abstract
In acousmatic music, made of all kind of sound material and in which we cannot see the sound source, the perception of sound is different from the situation when we can see the performer’s gestures. The sound vibration that comes out from the speakers gets a new ontological status, which forms specific mental representations. French composer François Bayle defines that kind of sound as an “image-ofsound” or “i-sound”. The formation of sonic images is connected with the semiotic theory of the “i-sound” based in a non-lineal concrete to abstract progression, and its main feature is a philosophy of dynamic production. On the other hand, the desire of this music to include all surrounding sounds take us to consider its willing to reach a cosmic dimension.Downloads
