Between Chona Madera's criticism and introspection: a forgotten poetry in search of clarity
Abstract
Asunción Madera's (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria 1900-1980) poetry was rarely included in the anthologies that recovered the social poetry of the mid-century in Spain. However, Chona Madera's trajectory was maintained over time and without great editorial silences, beyond the late publication of Los contados instantes in 1973. The present work aims to pay attention to a strongly committed, but at the same time existential poetry, which unfortunately has rarely received attention. We will use the element of clarity, undefined for polysemic, as the central nucleus from which to unravel the poetic keys and we will justify it as an element shared by the wide range of Canarian poets that Lázaro Santana included in his 1969’s Poesía canaria 1939-1939. Ultimately, this work aims to recover the figure of Chona Madera among the names of poets of the mid-twentieth century in Spain that the literary criticism has often not taken into account.
