The ecological and female perspective in Lodo, by Begoña Méndez
Abstract
This article attempts to analyze Lodo by Begoña Méndez from an ecofeminist perspective, as this text combines the ecological concern for the environmental disaster that left devastated the lagoon of the Mar Menor (Murcia, Spain) with the gender perspective to denounce the violence against women and natural environments. Lodo also stands as a paradigmatic example of how literature focused on care has found new ways of expression and has extended its influence to all beings, human and non-human, who cohabit planet Earth, in tune with the recent Latin American speculative narratives. Thus, in Lodo, Méndez establishes concomitances between ecological awareness and female perspective to reflect on her own identity and the need to create a new humanity that advocates for inter-species harmony.
