Francisco Umbral’s columnism and contemporary literary article
Abstract
This article deals with Francisco Umbral’s columnism from the perspective of the connection between his life and the genre of literary column, previously known in Spain as ‘literary article’. Some aspects of the genre are studied, for instance its relationship with poetry. The study makes also an incursion in the literary articles of other contemporary writers, such as Raúl del Pozo, Antonio Lucas and Luis Alberto de Cuenca. In addition, it briefly analyses the genre through the ideas of renowned masters like Umbral itself and César González-Ruano.
