Invention, palimpsests and enunciative recursion in 'Lazarillo Z.' Monstrosity as a mechanism of recodification
Abstract
This article analyses Lazarillo Z considering its value as a re-writing of the classical Renaissance novel from the perspective of the monster. First, the different enunciative levels overlapping in the story are studied. Then, intertextuality in the novel is discussed from two points of view: considering its fidelity to the original text —as a repetition of subjects, ideas, characters and episodes— and according to the addition of new traits, such as the inclusion of the figure of monster and its identification with the archetypal rogue characteristics.
