'Delirios' and 'balas' by Rodrigo Cortés, aphorisms of 21st century
Abstract
Aphorism is a significant literary genre. However, literature scholars have shown little interest in it. Over the past few years, aphorism has flourished again in Spanish literature. Among the writers who have published aphorisms recently, the film director and writer Rodrigo Cortés stands out. A las 3 son las 2 (2013) and Dormir es de patos (2015), collections of texts he called breverías, antiaforismos or balas, are radically contemporary manifestations of a genre cultivated since classical antiquity. This paper will address the study of the texts by this author, which despite the terseness of the genre, combine immediate reality, timeless matters and humour.
