Musical Rewrites Based on "Celestina": Notes on the History of Celestinesque Libretto
Abstract
In this paper we offer a vision of the musical adaptations made from the Tragicomedia de Calisto y Melibea in the format of opera or musical theatre. We take into consideration the previous works by Joseph Snow to propose an analysis of Felipe Pedrell’s adaptation from the beginning of the 20th century as well as the last known version, the one that is taking place in the Metropolitan Museum of Art of New York directed by Patrick Eakin Young. Even though we take into account all the known adaptations, our paper focuses in the two referred above, with a special attention to the latter given the lack of study about this text.Downloads
