Del Orlando furioso a Las lágrimas de Angélica. La mujer del Orco como mágica heredera de Canidia y Ericto
Abstract
This work deals wituh the character of Canidia, who appears in Luis Barahona de Soto’s Las lágrimas de Angélica (1586), an epic poem, influenced by Ariosto’s Orlando Furioso to a great extent. Indeed, Canidia, the Orc’s wife, is the heiress to Ariosto’s matron of Orc. However she has little in common with this figure apart from the fact that she’s married to the terrible ogre. Although this last one is an undeniable auxiliary of the hero, the first is mainly an opponent, characterized by being a sorceress from Thessaly (and very close to the figure of the ogress) based from Canidia of Horace’s Epodes and the Ericto of Lucan's Pharsalia.Downloads
