Knowledge and skills for occupational social work: challenges for professional training and practice in the field
Abstract
Occupational Social Work (OSW) is a field of professional practice recognisable from the origins of the field of social work. It maintains an active presence in the contemporary practice of the profession, despite not being clearly conceptualised and having been subject to limited academic development. This is the starting point for this article to examine the knowledge and skills that are required to practise OSW, identifying the perspectives of social work professionals, managers of businesses and public organisations and employer and worker representatives. The Chilean-specific demands for skills and knowledge and their similarities and differences compared with other contexts were identified using a qualitative methodology. Future challenges and lines of research are presented on the basis of the findings.
