Music Groups in Popular Comedies of the 1960s: Los Shakers
Abstract
During the 1960s, Spanish cinematography, specifically a certain type of comedy, included musical performances by active ensembles with a pop and rock tendency. These participations of modernity in the diegesis had a specific narrative and discursive purpose. As an example of this practice, this text will focus on the Madrid group Los Shakers, which appeared in the films Megatón ye-yé (Jesús Yagüe, 1965), Zampo y yo (Zampo and Me, Luis Lucia, 1965), La ciudad no es para mí (The city is not for me, Pedro Lazaga, 1966), Último encuentro (Last meeting, Antonio Eceiza, 1967), Es mi hombre (He´s my man, Rafael Gil, 1966) and ¡Cómo está el servicio! (How is the service!, Mariano Ozores, 1968).
