El magisterio de José Inzenga en el Conservatorio de Madrid (1857-1891)
Abstract
Together with creation and folklore, the teaching of singing was one of José Inzenga’s most important activities. Despite his training as a pianist, he first became interested in the composition of stage and vocal works, as well as teaching, during the time he spent with Manuel Patricio García in Paris. In Madrid, he initially worked as a singing teacher at the Sociedad del Teatro del Circo in 1854, and subsequently, from 1860 onwards, at the Escuela Nacional de Música, in the vocal-teaching position formerly held by Ángel Inzenga. In his early lessons he already employed a methodology associated with the teachings of Manuel García, jnr., whose principles are set out in the syllabus he put together for the singing subject in 1871, and which specifies aspects relating to vocal technique, dramaturgy, the practical organisation of the lessons, as well as the stage careers of future singers.
