Universalidad de la imagen musical en el libro religioso de la Edad Moderna
Abstract
This paper presents and analyses a selection of images with musical instruments included in religious books printed in the modern age in Europe and currently located in the Cathedral Archive and the University Library of the city of Oviedo. It explains the diverse social categories of instruments in relation to each artist’s country of origin and their use within the context of their iconographic program and accompanying texts. By this means, the aim is to prove that religious prints with musical instruments became universally known thanks to the rapid expansion of printing and especially the monopoly exercised by certain printers in cities such as Antwerp, Venice and Lyons.Downloads
