Decadencia y supresión de la capilla musical de la Colegiata de Talavera de la Reina en el siglo XIX: precedentes y causas
Abstract
This article focuses on the situation of Spanish sacred music during the first half of the nineteenth century as exemplified by the choir of the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria la Mayor in Talavera de la Reina. After a period of splendour in the eighteenth century, we can perceive in the last years of the century the symptoms of decadence of the chapel, which would deteriorate during the nineteenth century due to the disentailment policies of liberal governments as contained in the Concordato, that lead to the disappearance of some churches, such as the Collegiate Church of Santa María la Mayor in Talavera de la Reina. One of the main objectives of this article is the study of the background and circumstances of this event, which was decisive in the decline of nineteenth-century Spanish music.Downloads
