Abstract

The author analyses, from the point of view of Political Economy, the consequences in political life due to the major transformations produced in cultural industry and communication areas. His work is displayed in three steps. He outlines firstly the troublesome relationship between communications and democracy. Afterwards, he precises the features of his own perspective. Finally he focuses his work on the mutations in public sphere. He proposes giving up the spatial metaphor and the idealistic rationalism, and seeks to identify the trends which dominate the public-private reconfiguration in the so-called information societies.
