Revising the methodology of peace learning
Abstract
Galtung’s theory of peace may be seen as a conclusion to a lifetime’s work. This chapter is an attempt to relate this important theory to the field of peace education. Building peace means increasing equity and empathy and decreasing negative energy rooted in unhealed traumas and conflicts swept under the carpet. In line with cognitive and communicative justice, forms or ways of knowing are discussed in relation to the four main interrelated concepts in this theory of peace. The chapter is thus a new attempt of understanding the dialectics between form, content, and contextual conditions in peace education.
