The art of casting bells: a craft of the Old Regime and its activity seen from the Church of El Salvador de Simancas (1545–1798)
Abstract
Based on the extensive documentation consulted, we have studied the evolution of the Romanesque tower of the church of el Salvador de Simancas (Valladolid), including its belles and clock. Also, the works of the master architects, builders bell and clockmakers are analyzed, as well as the maintenance of all these elements in a fruitful period, the Ancien Regime, by carpenters, blacksmiths and merchants. Undoubtedly, this tower with its bronzes and clangs have been a constant in the daily life of this population and a reference within the scope of the province of Valladolid, and Castilla y León.
