Juan José de Austria’s fancy, practice and enjoyment in sciences and arts
Abstract
Juan José de Austria, besides collector, patron or sponsor of arts and sciences, he was an amateur and practitioner, in his leisure time and for enjoyment, of a great varied repertoire of disciplines, fact that singularizes it greatly among all his peers. The son of Philip IV, excelled in music, the painting (in different modalities, such as porcelain painting), the drawing, and even the silverware and the design of watches. Directly related to theses hobbies, at the same time and throughout his life, he expressed a sincer interest in science, especially the mathematics, the medicine and the mechanics of his time. As a great connoisseur of diverse scientifics, artistics and mechanics fields, he was aware of all the news of the time and was able to boost the timid work othe de first “novatores” of the seventeenth century in Spain.
