The Wealth of Families of Jiennenses Widowers in the Eighteenth Century
Abstract
This article analyzes the property and livestock of the widowers of the Kingdom of Jaen, in the eighteenth century. As source for study, it has been used the Cadastre of Marques of Ensenada. The patrimony of widowers, in the northern Andalusia, has been studied in two ways. On the one hand, it has been made a classification by wealth levels, the type and number of houses, land and cattle. And, on the other hand, it has been considered the indebtedness of widowers, the lenders institutions, as well as the moneylenders. In short, it has been showed the strategies families of widowers, and also how the wealth largely determines the survival of the household.
