Documenting violence by enduring it: aggressions against female journalists in Mexico
Abstract
Violence against female journalists in Mexico represents the convergence of two pressing issues in the country. Communication professionals experience gruesome forms of violence not only because they are journalists, but also due to specific expressions derived from gender-based violence. Based on surveys of 486 journalists in Mexico (both women and men), this article documents the environment of threats and risks faced by women in the journalistic field, emphasizing those forms of direct and symbolic violence statistically linked to being a woman, such as sexual harassment, workplace harassment, and those carried out through digital channels.
