The gay activism in Mexico City. Which perspectives for gay activism in a liquid, normalizing, digitalized and pandemic society?
Abstract
This article parts from my master’s degree research into the evolution of the meanings of gay activism in Mexico City with the uses of social networks as Facebook by gay men living in the Mexican capital and the COVID-19 pandemic. I discuss the methodological challenges implied by the fact of doing social research in the pandemic, before analyzing the perspectives of gay activism, parting from a case study about the organization of Gay Pride events in Mexico City. The results of my qualitative research suggest that the gay activist landscape is still more hybrid and complex, which matches perfectly the global evolutions of our still more, but not totally liquid societies.
