Sexual Consent and Desire in Promising Young Woman
Abstract
In this article, the film Promising Young Woman (Emerald Fennell, 2020) will be analyzed from the Katherine Angel’s proposal about sexual consent exposed in her work El buen sexo mañana. Mujer y deseo en la era del consentimiento (2021), where this author questions the potential of the consent culture as a source of sexual satisfaction, liberation and empowerment of women. Thus, we analyse key scenes from the film that show the main current problems about the culture of consent related to desire and sexuality of women. At the same time, a dialogue will be established between this film and others belonging to the rape and revenge genre, trying to find their confluences.
