The devaluation of feminine stereotypes: when the goddess became a witch
Abstract
The role women have played in the universe of religious beliefs about magic has changed over centuries and millennia in all cultures. The evolution of these ideas has resulted in a constant tendency to degradation. At the beginning they were goddesses who became sorceresses, and these, in turn, became witches. Thus, in order to know this transition, it will be essential to understand the sociopolitical, economic, cultural, and religious context of Sixteenth century, and especially, to delve into what the publication of Malleus Maleficarum has meant to women.
