Representation of women artists at the Museo del Prado, Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza and Museo Nacional Reina Sofía in Madrid
Abstract
The presence of women artists in large national museums is limited both by the number of Works exhibited in thir colecctions and by the temporary exhibitions dedicated to them by these centres. The aim of this article was to confirm the representation of female creators in the Museo del Prado, Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza and Museo Nacional Reina Sofía in Madrid. The period chosen for this analysis goes from 2001 to 2020. Based on the results obtained in our study, we have been able to conclude that the three museums show a clear under-representation of female authors in their collections.
