Gender representation on the Spanish Soccer Team Twitter communication
Abstract
Twitter is a tool used by sports organizations to communicate with their audiences without the need to resort to traditional media. Both clubs, national teams or athletes themselves have a great impact on today's society. This study analyzed gender representation during the 2018 FIFA World Cup and the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup. The analysis focused on the messages published on Twitter by the official accounts of the Spanish National Team (@SeFutbol and @SeFutbolFem). The results show uneven activity, treatment and participation, which highlights the distance that still exists to achieve equality in the sports world, despite the possibilities offered by social networks.
