Modes of representation of women in documentaries on extrajudicial executions in Colombia

Abstract

This paper analyzes the representation of women in documentaries about extrajudicial executions in Colombia. This work is included in an investigation into the representation and discursive strategies of the social groups of women victims of the conflict in mass media, social networks and in audiovisual documentary works. The latter are constituted as a fundamental tool for social change. Through a qualitative methodology, we use film analysis and analyze six titles on extrajudicial executions within the Colombian conflict. This in order to verify that women are the main protagonists in the search for truth. We also want to analyze how the construction of documentary discourse sometimes reduces that prominence.

Laura Alexandra Eusse Garcés is an undergraduate student of Communication and audiovisual languages with an emphasis in photography direction, at the University of Medellín. He participated in different research hotbeds on Innovation, Script Writing for Cinema and Documentary Cinema in Latin America. With an interest in writing and directing, cinematography and still photography, he actively participates in the pre-production and production of projects focused on documentary film, music videos and the conceptualization of brands oriented to responsible consumption and friendly to the environment.

Alejandro Alzate Giraldo has a PhD in advanced studies in contemporary art from the University of Barcelona, a Master in Visual Anthropology and a Master in Artistic Production from the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Barcelona. Plastic artist University of Antioquia. Junior researcher linked to the Communication and Audiovisual Languages program of the Faculty of Communication of the University of Medellín.
